Of sorcerers and pythons...

"He survived.

Our sorcerer saved his life."

Aneek couldn't just believe it. He was about to say something when, he was cut short, by my gestures.

Science could be considered later. But, once his rhythm was interrupted, we would repent, without a doubt! A lot more was on the offering, and our thirst was yet to be quenched.

Birju continued.

"The monsoons mark a monopoly of the serpents. And we need to stay alert. We use bleaching (powder). Insects and frogs are considerably reduced, and so are snakes!"

I supported his words, though, only within.

"Am not sure, how many a kind of snakes dwell these depths. Still, it has decreased considerably. For, the vegetations are being robbed off. For personal gains.

The presence of pythons is to my knowledge. An eye witness. Specially, when it soars mercurial.

Once, I had seen one of them gobble up the entire length of a young deer! Four days at a stretch, it lay, at the same place. Resting."

The tale teller...

"Frankly speaking, I'm not a very keen observer as far vegetation or the wild is concerned. But, that I have seen is no less!

The most dreaded is the bear. Snakes and elephants also share the credit equally.

Years back, we had six sheds for our cattle.

The base, being of bamboo and grasses and reeds, served the purpose of a roof, overhead.

In one of them, we, I mean, all of us used to stay, in scaffolds. Snakes were frequent visitors there. Once, one of the men even got bitten!"

"Then?"

Birju's progress was cut short by my instinctively uncontrolled question!

Like a victor at the battlefield, he smiled. And continued.
